Oh, so I think I’m inspirational? Nah, not really, but maybe I can inspire you anyway..
My family used to tease me about being a bookworm. But you know what? I don’t care! I once wrote an essay about my love of reading (including theory about literacy), and I got an A, so screw them.
Since I was a kid, I’ve loved poetry. I’m a bit of a control freak, so the rules of poetry, such as meter, rhyme schemes and length bring me great satisfaction (so nerdy, I know). My favorite poets are Sylvia Plath, Emily Dickinson, Pablo Neruda and a contemporary poet, Tyler Knott Gregson – a hopeless romantic. If you’re on Pinterest, I’m pretty sure you know Tyler Knott. I started writing my own poetry and songs, when I was around 12. Unfortunately, I can’t find most of it anymore, but I’m pretty sure it was terrible!
Regarding novels, I used to love chick-lit, you know, the Sophie Kinsella, Cecilia Ahern and Marian Keyes type-of-books. I didn’t know better at the time, and I actually still enjoy some young adult fiction, when I’m lying on the beach or by the pool somewhere nice and warm (John Green and Nicola Yoon, for example). It’s my guilty pleasure, I suppose. These days, my favorite books are American classics, such as To Kill A Mockingbird, The Bell Jar and The Great Gatsby. I’m also really into horror books, such as Stephen King’s Carrie and Robert Bloch’s Psycho. There’s something about books that’s so much scarier than any movie, because you can literally imagine something that’s worse than any monster in a movie.
That adrenaline rush is something I chase again and again.
That being said, I freaking love horror movies. Experts say that (some) humans are naturally drawn to scary movies, because it’s a safe way of facing their fears. And I completely agree! I mean, is there anything better than feeling your heart racing, palms sweating and being tense in your entire body to just have it culminate in an explosion of shock and horror and finally being released of it when the scene is over? (Okay, it totally sounds like I’m describing something else, but I swear, I’m not). That adrenaline rush is something I chase again and again.
Anyway, in the INSPIRATION category, I’ll post reviews and recommendations about anything that I find interesting.
